We serve, not just because we are needed. We serve because it fulfills our need to be fully human. The world's need for mercy is matched by our need to be merciful. As we minister to one another, we become the church.
We welcome all who wish to join us as we celebrate God's presence in the world by loving and serving others wherever they are and whatever their needs.
General Board and Standing Ministries
The business of First Christian Church is conducted through a General Board which meets monthly. The board consists of member of the Diaconate, Elders, chairs of standing committees and ministries, and others as outlined in our Constitution and Bylaws.
The Standing Ministries include:
Christian Education, Evangelism, Membership, Stewardship, Outreach, Property, and Worship.
As a member of First Christian Church, you are urged to share your talents as a member of one of these ministries. Please pray for guidance as to which of these ministries best fits your special gifts. We need your participation.

Basic Mission Finance (BMF)
A
vital part of our reaching out to those in need beyond our own church walls is the Basic Mission Finance. Through Basic Mission Finance, we unite with other congregations, regions and general units to become Christ's hands and feet, his body, the church in a broken world. Four special offerings for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Pentecost enable us to be faithful through helping finance the following, among other things:
**100 missionaries in 30 countries;
**National Benevolent Association's care of more than 9,000 older adults, abused children, Alzheimer's victims and emotionally disturbed persons in 69 facilities across North America;
** 18 colleges, four seminaries, three divinity houses and 85 campus ministries which emphasize the unity of faith and reason in education;
**work with other religious bodies in answering human needs around the globe;
**and ecumenical relations.

Stephen Ministry — Pat Jennings
Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, and to share God's love with you can help you get through the confusion, stress, or loneliness you may be experiencing. The Stephen Ministry training equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are caught up in difficult circumstances and situations. If you would like to become a Stephen Minister, or if you desire to have one visit with you, contact Pat Jennings at 660-827-3346.

Mentoring Program — Tim Whitmore
First Christian Church is a partner with Washington Elementary School. Our members serve as mentors for over 30 "at risk" children. We meet with the kids at the school for one hour each week for "one-to-one" time. Mentors build positive relationships through listening, talking, reading, playing games, helping with homework, etc. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact Tim Whitmore at 660-826-2426.
